Our next podcast isn't going to be an easy listen, but we MUST confront this issue. Right now, entire online communities calling themselves 'monkey hate groups' are creating and distributing online content depicting primates and other animals being butchered. One of the scariest parts is, these groups are assembling in the very same places we are - sharing their vile content on Facebook, Instagram, and other popular platforms. To make matters worse, not only do some viewers willingly pay to watch these horrific acts, but the sheer popularity of the videos allows the content creators to draw revenue directly from the platforms too. If you come across this kind of content you may watch it, share it to raise awareness, or leave angry comments to show your disgust - but engaging in any way will only boost views and generate more cash for the abusers. So what CAN we do? And why are the social media giants allowing this to happen in the first place? On the next episode of Talking Apes Podcast, we speak to Nicola O'Brien who is the Lead Coordinator of SMACC - the world's leading coalition fighting online animal abuse. Tune in on Tuesday to find out how SMACC is tackling this heinous problem and how you can help from home in just a few seconds. Don't forget to follow and subscribe to Talking Apes on your favourite streaming platform to be alerted when the episode goes live.
